Peter Obi Slams NFF Over Unpaid Super Eagles Bonuses
Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 Elections and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, has weighed in on the ongoing dispute between the Super Eagles and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over unpaid bonuses.
In a strongly worded post on X, Obi expressed deep disappointment over the treatment of the national team, who recently boycotted training in protest of years of unpaid allowances.
‘It is truly unfortunate that our Super Eagles who consistently give their best in representing our dear nation, are being owed their allowances,’ Obi wrote.
He criticized the government’s spending priorities, lamenting that while funds are often available for ‘lavish spending and political patronage,’ those who bring pride to the nation are neglected.
Obi warned that such neglect sends a dangerous message to Nigerian youth, that patriotism and hard work are not rewarded.
‘Those who represent Nigeria deserve to be paid promptly and treated with respect,’ he added, calling for urgent reforms and a renewed commitment to fairness and accountability.
His comments come amid mounting public outrage over the NFF’s failure to settle outstanding bonuses for the Super Eagles, who are preparing for a crucial CAF 2026 World Cup Playoff match against Gabon in Rabat, Morocco.
