Chelsea Vs Leicester City: Ndidi out to avoid setting an unwanted EPL record

Wilfred Ndidi will be hoping to avoid setting an unwanted Premier League record when he visits west London with Leicester City to face Chelsea in a matchweek 27 fixture at Stamford Bridge.

The 26 year old has made two errors leading to goals in two of the 182 games he has featured in in the competition since he joined the Foxes from RKC Genk in 2017.

One of the two games was against Chelsea in August 2019 when his error led to the host’s goal scored in the seventh minute by Mason Mount at Stamford Bridge. That error drew Ndidi level with Dickson Etuhu, Alex Iwobi, Mikel Obi and Joseph Yobo as the Nigerians who committed the most errors that led to goals in the history of the Premier League.

Ndidi redeemed himself in that match at Stamford, scoring Leicester City’s equaliser to secure a point for his club but the former Genk of Belgium player may own the unwanted record if he commits any error again on Saturday.

The Nigerian has featured 13 times against Chelsea across all competitions with 10 coming in the Premier League. He has won just three of the games and lost seven times. He has scored twice and bagged an assist, all coming against Chelsea.

Meanwhile, forward Kelechi Iheanacho will be aiming to bounce back to scoring form at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The Nigerian, 26, missed two sitters in the Foxes 1-0 loss at Southampton last week and drew criticisms from England and Premier League legends, Gary Lineker and Ian Wright.

Although Leicester City gaffer, Brendan Rodgers came to the Nigerian’s defence, the former Manchester City forward knows hitting the back of the net against Chelsea like he has done in two Premier League games this season will be the only way to placate Leicester City fans.

Iheanacho has scored once in 10 Premier League games against Chelsea with the goal coming away from home. He scored the Foxes’ only goal in the 2-1 loss to their host at Stamford Bridge in May 2021.

If he plays, it will be his 142nd Premier League game for Leicester City since he joined from Manchester City in August 2017 and 188 overall since he made his debut in the competition in August 2015.
Overall, he has featured 197 times for the Foxes across all competitions.
