Foden makes history as first English man since 2010 to win PFA Players’ Player of the Year

Manchester City player, Phil Foden has made history as the first English man to win the PFA Player’s Player of the Year award since Wayne Rooney in 2010, and the first to do so in the same year as winning the title since John Terry in 2005.

Only two Englishmen have been named Premier League Player of the Season, FWA Footballer of the Year and the PFA Player’s Player of the Year in the same season: Rooney (2009/10)
and Foden (2023/24).

Foden achieved a career high return of 19 goals from 35 Premier League appearances, providing eight assists, the best return of his senior career.

This award, voted for by his fellow professionals, followed the Man City star being voted as the Premier League Player of the Year, the Football Writer’s Association Footballer of the Year and City’s Etihad Player of the Season.

Foden was also voted into the PFA Team of the Year, alongside City colleagues Kyle Walker, Rodrigo and Erling Haaland.

‘To be recognised this way by your fellow professionals means everything and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.

‘I also want to pay special thanks to Pep, the City coaches and all my teammates as they help me to try and get better every single day.

‘I’d also like congratulate Kyle, Rodrigo and Erling on being voted into the PFA Team of the Year as it’s great to see their amazing quality recognised in such a way.

‘Last season was another very special one for everyone at the Club but now all our focus is concentrated on trying to achieve more success this term.’
