Giroud backs Osimhen to finish as Serie A top scorer
As Nigeria seeks to score first goal in three games vs Empoli
AC Milan forward Olivier Giroud says Napoli star, Victor Osimhen will win the 2022/23 top scorer award in the Serie A.
Osimhen has scored 18 goals in 19 Serie A games so far this term and he is five goals ahead of his nearest challenger, Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez who netted 13 times in 23 appearances and six ahead of his compatriots, Ademola Lookman who has scored 12 goals in 22 games for Atalanta.
Giroud has netted seven times in 21 games, 11 adrift of Osimhen but the Frenchman who scored 105 goals in 253 appearances and 39 in 119 games across all competitions for Arsenal and Chelsea respectively is convinced the Nigerian will win Serie A’s Golden Boot before a potential move to the Premier League.
“Osimhen,” the World Cup winner said when asked by DAZN who’s mantelpiece the Golden Boot award will be adorning. “He does everything well. He has very high confidence.”
The Nigerian will be seeking to add to the 18 goals he has so far scored when his club, Napoli visit the Stadio Carlo Castellani to face their host, Empoli in a matchweek 24 fixture.
Interestingly, Osimhen will be looking to score his first goal in three games against a team 12th on the log with 28 points from 23 games while Napoli are top of the table with 62 points from 23 matches, 15 points clear of second placed Inter Milan.
