Iheanacho hopes Leicester City can rise again after relegation from Premier League
Kelechi Iheanacho hopes Leicester City can rise again after their relegation to the Championship on Sunday evening.
The Nigerian was one of the Foxes’ best players in the just ended season, scoring five times with four of the goals coming in the 2023 calendar year.
He was voted the official Premier League player of the match thrice and his injury which saw him miss three of the club’s final five games of the season did not help the Foxes’ cause.
The 26 year old expressed his disappointment in an interview with LCFC TV after beating West Ham 2-1 at the King Power stadium in their final game of the season.
‘I don’t even know how I feel right now. I’m so disappointed. I don’t know what to say. I just need to thank the football club, the fans,
everyone who has supported us from the start to now.
‘I know it’s a hard one to take but if life kicks you, you just need to stand up and keep going. Whatever it is, we just keep going, stay strong, and
hopefully we get back up.
‘Nobody’s really happy at this time. It’s a bad time for the club and everyone. We need to take it on the chin and move on. It’s really not what we want but
we can’t go back now. We have to move forward.’
Iheanacho joined Leicester City from Manchester City in August 2017 and has made 206 appearances for the Foxes, scoring 55 times.
The Nigerian netted 30 times in 150 Premier League games for Leicester City. He also provided 23 assists.
