Iwobi makes history with 300th Premier League appearance, says: ‘I’m not done yet’

Alex Iwobi etched his name into Premier League history on Saturday, becoming the first Nigerian player to reach 300 appearances in England’s top flight.

The milestone came during Fulham’s hard-fought clash against Newcastle United, a match that ended in heartbreak as Bruno Guimarães netted a dramatic 90th minute winner to seal a 2-1 victory for the hosts.

Despite the bitter ending, Iwobi’s personal achievement stood tall. Reflecting on the occasion, the Fulham midfielder expressed pride and determination.

‘It’s amazing. It’s a big achievement to lead that, with the likes of Shola Ameobi and even my uncle [Jay-Jay Okocha] that’s participated in the Premier League. It’s an honour, but I’m not done yet, I’m going to keep on going and hopefully keep the record going,’ he said.

Just last week, he surpassed all other Nigerian players in Premier League history with his 299th appearance in Fulham’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Earlier this season, he became the first Nigerian to reach the 20,000-minute mark in the competition.

Now with 20,528 minutes played, Iwobi’s stats speak volumes. He has completed 9,315 passes with an impressive 82% success rate, and his tally of 37 assists is the highest ever recorded by a Nigerian in Premier League history.

He has also taken more shots, registered more shots on target, and started more games, 237 in total, than any other Nigerian to grace the league.
