Laura Muir: ‘It’s amazing to be a part of Kipyegon’s record setting race for the fourth time’

British distance runner, Laura Muir says she knew Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon was going to go for the world record in the 1500m at the Meeting de Paris, one of the 2024 Wanda Diamond League events on Sunday and expressed delight to be a part of the race which also fetched her a new British record.

‘This is my fourth race with Faith where she broke the World Record, and it is amazing to be a part of that. She is able to do something that we have never seen, and that drags all of us to run fast times as well.

‘It is a privilege to be racing at this point and time. We just know how hard it is, it´s a tough game, so we have a lot of respect for one another, and it is a privilege to be racing against the girls we have racing right now,’ said Muir who ran inside 3:54 (3:53.79) for the first time in her career.

Muir says she and the rest of the field were not surprised Kipyegon went for the record.

‘I sensed that she [Kipyegon] was going to go for it, and she did it. We´re not surprised, and I am glad to be able to run my own race, and my strength paid off’.
