London Diamond League Meeting: Tebogo seeking first win in seven head to head clashes vs Noah Lyles
Bostwana’s Letsile Tebogo is one of Africa’s biggest hopes for a first ever Olympic sprint gold and the 21 year old will be looking for a morale boosting against defending world 100m and 200m champion, Noah Lyles.
Both were scheduled to face off in EBS Herculis Diamond League meeting in Monaco last week but the American pulled out of the meeting but all is set now for the first head to head meeting between the two athletes at the London Diamond League meeting on Saturday.
Tebogo has faced Lyles six times since they both clashed over the 100m at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meeting in Eugene, Oregon, USA in May 2022 with the American finishing ahead of the Botswana sprint star.
The duo also met five times last year, thrice in the 100m and twice in the 200m with Lyles winning all including the final of the two events at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Lyles is seeking to win four gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics while Africa is banking on Tebogo and two others to deliver Africa’s first 100m gold in the history of the Games.
Tebogo will thus be aiming to win for the first time against Lyles to boost his confidence of pulling an upset in Paris.
