Lookman becomes second Nigerian to score 10+ goals in his debut season in the Serie A

Nigerian is also fourth Atalanta player to net double figures in first 19 Serie A games in his first campaign

Ademola Lookman has made history as the second Nigerian player in Serie A history to score 10+ goals in his debut season after the forward netted a brace in his club, Atalanta’s 3-3 draw at Juventus.

The brace takes his total tally so far this season to 11 goals, one more than the 10 Victor Osimhen scored in his debut season (2020/21) in the Italian topflight league.

The brace also made him the fourth Atalanta player to score 10+ goals after 19 matches in his very first Serie A campaign, after Jørgen Leschly Sørensen (1949/50), Karl Aage Hansen (1949/50) and Poul Rasmussen (1952/53).

The Nigerian opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the game and added his second in the 53rd minute to put Atalanta 3-2 up after Juventus scored twice on 25 and 34 minutes to end the first half with a 2-1 lead.

Atalanta’s Joakim Maehle even scores at the start of the second half before Lookman shot the visitors into the lead again.

The former Fulham and Leicester City player is now just two goals behind Osimhen in the race for Serie A top scorer honour.
