Salah becomes 11th player to score 250 goals for one club
Mohamed Salah reached a huge milestone on Saturday when he scored his 250th goal for Liverpool in the Reds’ 2-0 defeat of Aston Villa at Anfield to halt a losing run.
The Egyptian became in the process the 11th player this century to score that many goals for a single club in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
It’s been quite a journey for Salah. After a short and quiet spell at Chelsea, where he scored only twice, Salah moved to Italy and rebuilt his career. He returned to the Premier League in 2017, joining Liverpool from Roma for €42 million, and quickly became one of the league’s biggest stars.
In his first season at Anfield, Salah scored 32 Premier League goals. Since then, he’s helped Liverpool win two Premier League titles, a Champions League, an FA Cup, and two EFL Cups.
His latest goal came against Aston Villa, when he took advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and tapped the ball into an empty net just before halftime. That goal marked his 250th for the club in all competitions, achieved in 415 games.
Only ten other players have reached this number for a single top five league club since 2000.
Cristiano Ronaldo did it fastest, scoring 250 goals for Real Madrid in just 244 games. Robert Lewandowski followed with 294 games for Bayern Munich. Kylian Mbappé reached the mark in 299 games for Paris Saint-Germain, and Lionel Messi did it in 327 games for Barcelona.
Sergio Agüero scored 250 goals in 360 games for Manchester City, while Harry Kane needed 390 games to do it for Tottenham.
Salah is seventh on the list. The remaining four players are Karim Benzema, who reached 250 goals for Real Madrid in 521 games; Wayne Rooney, who did it in 552 games for Manchester United; Francesco Totti, who scored 250 goals for Roma in 556 games; and Thomas Müller, who took 756 games to reach the milestone for Bayern Munich.
