Supercomputer installs Super Eagles as heavy favourites to win AFCON 2023
The Opta Supercomputer has installed the Super Eagles of Nigeria as the new favourites to win AFCON 2023.
The Super Eagles (42nd) are the highest-ranked side left in the competition following the exit of Morocco (13th), reigning champions Senegal (20th), Tunisia (28th), Algeria (30th) and Egypt (33rd).
For the Nigerians to start dreaming of a fourth AFCON title, they need to scale the remaining hurdles that will come their way, starting with Friday’s last eight Clash with Angola.
Jose Peseiro and his men have been given a 55.5% chance of defeating Angola inside 90 minutes by the Supercomputer.
This will be the first-ever encounter between Nigeria and Angola at the AFCON.
Nigeria have conceded just once in the tournament and will look to build on that defensive solidity and hope star striker, Victor Osimhen can start delivering the goals.
Top scorer with 26 goals in the Serie A last season, the 25 year old has only scored once in four games at the tournament.
