Umar Sadiq undergoes successful surgery on ruptured ACL

Nigerian international forward Umar Sadiq underwent a successful surgery Thursday morning, according to his LaLiga club, Real Sociedad.

‘The operation was successfully carried out with no issues. He will remain in the hospital until Friday or Saturday, depending on his evolution,’ said the club in a tweet on its verified twitter handle.

The towering forward ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the team’s 2-1 La Liga loss away at Getafe last weekend.

As a result, he was forced off after just 38 minutes, ending what has been a good start to the season.

“After suffering a rupture of his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, Sadiq Umar will undergo surgery on 15th September in Vitoria, with Dr Mikel Sanchez taking control of the procedure,” the Spanish outfit confirmed on Tuesday.

The injury, as previously reported by SportsNow usually takes between six to nine months to heal, although no clear date has been set for his return yet.

Real Sociedad signed the 25-year-old from Almería on the final day of the transfer window. The La Liga outfit paid €20m plus add-ons in order to secure the services of the Nigerian striker.

He recently gave his first interview as a Real Sociedad player to the club’s official media and discussed why he decided to join the side on a deal until 2028.

‘I have chosen Real because it is one of the most important teams in Spain. It is a step forward and I am very grateful that they have signed me. I am very happy. Real was the best option, I couldn’t say no.’
