World Rankings: Tobi Amusan Set for Sixth Top 100 Finish in Seven Years
Tobi Amusan is set to reclaim her place among the world’s elite as she prepares to finish the 2025 season ranked within the top 100 overall women athletes for the sixth time in seven years.
The Nigerian hurdler, currently ranked third globally in the 100m hurdles, has enjoyed a resurgent year, highlighted by a silver medal at the World Athletics Championships and a strong showing on the Diamond League circuit.
Her return to form marks a significant comeback after a disappointing 2024 season, during which she failed to reach the Olympic final and subsequently shut down her campaign early.
That slump saw her drop out of the top 100 for the first time since the global ranking system was introduced in 2019, ending the year at 132nd.
Before that setback, Amusan had been a consistent presence in the rankings. She finished 2019 as the 48th best woman athlete in the world, climbed to 45th in 2020, and reached 43rd in 2021, the same year she became the first Nigerian to win a Diamond League title.
Her breakthrough came in 2022, when she soared to fifth in the world after winning the World Championships and setting a new world record in the 100m hurdles. That year also saw her defend her Diamond League crown successfully.
In 2023, Amusan dropped to 30th amid controversy surrounding a whereabouts failure case, which she later cleared. Despite the turbulence, she made history again by becoming only the second woman to win the Diamond League 100m hurdles title three times in a row.
Now, with her performances in 2025 restoring her status, Amusan is projected to finish the year as the 28th best woman athlete globally.
