11 years after, Arteta eager to lead Arsenal to victory again Vs Bayern

Mikel Arteta will be hoping to lead Arsenal to victory against Bayern Munich for the second time in 11 years when the two sides clash at the Allianz Arena Wednesday night in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal tie.

The Bavarians secured a 2-2 draw at the Emirates stadium last week and will fancy their chances of getting past the Gunners into the semifinal final against either Real Madrid or Manchester City but Arteta will hope for history to repeat itself 11 years after he captained Arsenal to a 2-0 win in Munich.

Olivier Giroud (3rd minute and )Laurent Koscielny (85th minute) scored the goals for the Gunners to tie the game 3-3 but the Bavarians won on the away goals rile to advance to the quarterfinals.

Arteta believes history can be repeated Wednesday night and must have banked on the fact that Bayern Munich have won just one of their last five knockout games in the Champions League, and have been eliminated at this stage of the competition in each of the last three seasons since winning the competition in 2019/20.

Arteta: “I want my team to be ourselves, regardless of the stadium. Sometimes you want to do certain things and the opponent doesn’t allow you to do it, and we’re going to be very clear how we’re going to play the game, how we want to play the game, and what is going to give us the best chance to win it.

“If we make it happen Wednesday night, we are in the semi-final, and we will be in a really highly emotional state – it’s something that we haven’t achieved as a club for the last 15-17 years and that’s the opportunity.”
