2-2!: Osimhen and Onuachu ignite early race for Super Lig Golden Boot

With just four matchdays completed in the 2025/26 Turkish Super Lig season, Nigerian strikers Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu have emerged as early contenders in the race for the league’s top scorer award.

Both players have registered two goals apiece, setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling battle between two of Nigeria’s most prolific forwards.

Osimhen, last season’s Super Lig top scorer with 26 goals in 30 appearances, has returned to Galatasaray on a permanent deal following a successful loan spell from Napoli.

The 26-year-old missed the club’s opening fixture but has since found the net in each of his last two appearances, reaffirming his reputation as one of the most lethal finishers in European football.

Onuachu, who previously impressed during a loan stint with Trabzonspor in the 2023/24 season, scoring 15 goals in 21 matches, has also returned to Turkey after a brief spell back at Southampton.

The towering striker opened his account on the first day of the season, scoring the decisive goal in Trabzonspor’s 1-0 win over Kocaelispor. He added his second of the campaign in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Samsunspor.

Although both players have scored twice, Onuachu has featured in more matches, giving Osimhen a slight edge in efficiency.
