2022/23 Premier League Season: Ndidi rated worst Leicester player, Iheanacho gets good marks

Leicester Mercury newspaper has rated Wilfred Ndidi one of the worst players of the season for the now relegated Leicester City.

The highly influential, Leicester based newspaper rated all the 26 players over the course of the 2022/23 campaign as the Foxes’ Premier League era ended
after nine seasons with relegation.

Ndidi, who joined the club in January 2017 and won the best tackler in the competition for two straight seasons was a shadow of his imposing self in the just
ended campaign.

His loss of form could be the main reason for Leicester City’s drop from the English topflight and Leicester Mercury captured this in its assessment of the Nigerian.

‘No other player seemed to have as dramatic a fall in their form as Ndidi did. He went from dominating midfields and being a reliable presence in front of the back four, to providing no protection. If he can’t regularly win tackles and interceptions, or pick up the loose balls, City are going to suffer,’ wrote the newspaper who gave the 26 year old three marks out of a possible 10.

The newspaper however believes Kelechi Iheanacho was one of the best things that happened to the club this term.

The former Manchester City forward scored five goals during the just ended season with four of the goals coming in the 2023 calendar year.

He was also voted the official Premier League Man of the Match thrice.

Leicester Mercury rated Iheanacho six out of a possible 10.

‘City were a much more fluid in attack with Iheanacho as the striker and he still provided goals and assists at a rate none of his team-mates could match.
‘His link-up play and vision was superb at times, while he gave fans one of the moments of the season with his groin-tearing pass at Leeds. But those misses at Southampton proved costly.’
