2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships: Adeleke, Wilson kept apart in 400m semifinal heat

Ireland’s 200m and 400m record holder and University of Texas Junior, Rhasidat Adeleke and University of Arkansas Junior, Britton Wilson have been drawn in
different semifinal heat in the 400m event of the 2023 NCAA outdoor championships

The Championships are scheduled to hold at the Mike Myers stadium, University of Texas in Austin, Texas from June 7–10, 2023.

Adeleke and Wilson are tipped to go head to head for the quartermile title after they both ran inside 50 seconds for the first time in their careers this
year with the the 22 year old Wilson topping the Collegiate chart with the 49.13 lifetime best she ran last month in Louisiana.

Adeleke, 20, is ranked next to her with her 49.54 new Irish record she ran late last month in Sacramento, California at the NCAA Division I West First
Rounds.

They are only the two athletes who have broken 50 seconds in the 400m in the semifinal line up released by the National Collegiate of Athletics Associations,
NCAA last week.

Adeleke will run from lane six in the first of three semifinal heats while Wilson have also been assigned to run from lane six in the second semifinal.

Adeleke and Wilson are both expected to grab one of the two automatic qualification slots on offer in their respective heats.

Adeleke has had an impressive outdoor campaign and was part of three collegiate records at the Texas Relays, breaking the 4×100 record (42.00), the 4×200 record (1:28.05) and the sprint medley relay record (3:36.10).

She ran the third-fastest 400m time in Texas history (49.90) and eighth-fastest ever in NCAA history and also ran a PB in the 200 at 22.34 at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational.

She has been tipped to overcome Wilson in the final and win her first major individual Collegiate title.
