2023 Okpekpe race champion, Ebenyo unhappy for not breaking Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon

Daniel Simiu Ebenyo, the 2023 Okpekpe international race champion and course record holder won his seventh race of the season early Saturday morning at the
18th edition of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon race in Delhi, India but was unhappy not to break the course record like he did in Okpekpe in May.

The 27 year old who won the 10,000m silver medal in his debut at World Athletic’s flagship event, the World Championships in August in Budapest, Hungary ran
59:27, his second fastest time over the distance this year and third ever to win the event ahead of Charles Matata who ran 60:05 for the silver spot spot
while whilst Addisu Gobena cam third.

‘It was amazing to run here, however, I am disappointed with my timing. I was aiming for the event record but fell short. But, nevertheless, it was a
fantastic experience to run in the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon.

‘Hopefully, I will be able to break the event record next year. I would like to congratulate the organizers of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon for hosting a
brilliant event’, said Ebenyo who ran inside 27 minutes for the first time (26:57.80) in his career when he won the 10,000m in his debut in a Diamond League
meeting at the Memorial van Damme in Bruxelles, Belgium.

Meanwhile, 2016 Rio Olympics Champion and winner of the Delhi Half Marathon six years ago Ethiopia’s Almaz Ayana won the women’s race.

She claimed the top spot in 67:58. Uganda’s Stella Chesang finished 28 seconds later for the second place while Viola Chepngeno from Kenya completed the
podium in 69:09.
