2024 African Women Footballer of the Year: Oshoala out; Nnadozie, Ajibade in
Flamingos, Falconets, Adukwu Edo Queens and Super Falcons also shortlisted for different awards
Asisat Oshoala will not be in contention for a record extending seventh African Women Footballer of the Year award after the Bay FC of USA striker was left out of the 10 nominees unveiled by the Confederation of African Football of Wednesday night.
Oshoala won the award in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022 and 2023.
There are however two Nigerians in the final 10 of nominees and they are goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie (Nigeria / Paris FC) and Rasheedat Ajibade (Nigeria / Atletico Madrid).
The duo will be hoping to win the award for Nigeria for the 14th time and one of the duo will become the fifth Nigerian to be crowned the best African player.
Nnadozie is also in the running for the goalkeeper of the year as she bids to win it again after emerging Africa’s best last year.
Edo Queens duo of Emem Essien and Monle Oyono will battle for the Interclub Player of the Year while
Rivers Angels duo of Chiamaka Okuchukwu and Flourish Sabastine will be in the running for the Young Player of the Year.
Flamingos coach, Bankole Olowookere, Falconets coach, Chris Danjuma and Moses Adukwu of Edo Queens are in the running for the Coach of the year award while the Nigeria U17, U20 and the Super Falcons have been shortlisted for National Team of the Year.
Edo Queens are the sole nominee from Nigeria for the Club of the Year award.
