Edo Queens face a must-not-lose final group B game against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa to confirm their place in the semifinals of the ongoing 4th edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League tournament holding in Morocco.
The Nigerians could have secured a place in the final four if they had secured an historic second win in the tournament when they faced fellow debutantes, FC Masar of Egypt on Wednesday evening at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
The game ended goalless to set up a photo finish in Group B, with Queens having to face a resurgent Sundowns who won 4-0 against Central Bank of Ethiopia earlier, while FC Masar face the already knocked out Ethiopian side.
A win for the Nigerian ladies could have seen them put one foot into the semi-finals of the competition.
Edo Queens however maintain their lead at the top of Group B with four points, with Masar just behind them on the same number of points.
While the Governor Monday Okpebholo Ladies missed the chance to become the first Nigerian club at the finals to win their opening two games, they however made history as the first to keep successive clean sheets in their opening two games.
