2025 AFCON: Super Eagles jet out to Benghazi, Libya, aiming for victory
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have jetted out to Benghazi in Libya where they will face their host, the Mediterranean Knights in the second leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The Nigerians won the first leg via a late goal by substitute, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and will be on the threshold of their 21st appearance in Africa’s biggest football competition if they secure victory on Tuesday.
Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong is confident they can withstand whatever antics the Libyans throw their way in the return leg.
‘We are confident of winning as our objective is to return to the AFCON and win it this time after coming close the last time.
‘We are ready for the Libyans and whatever they plan to intimidate us. We are expecting a very hostile environment fueled by the lies they told about the NFF maltreating them,’ said Troost-Ekong.
The match will be played at the Benina Martyrs Stadium located in Benina, a town 19 km east of Benghazi.
The Super Eagles will move to 10 points if they win on Tuesday and, depending on Benin Republic’s result in Rwanda, secure qualification or win just a point in their remaining two games to qualify as one of the two teams from their qualifying group.
