2025 President Federation Cup: Rangers fly past Enugu Angels, face Great Achievers in semis
Rangers International F.C of Enugu kick-started their bid for a 7th President Federation Cup win on a bright note with a 3-0 win over state league side, Enugu Angels F.C in a quarter-final, 2025 Enugu State President Federation cup encounter inside the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
Goals from Godwin Obaje in the 10th and 25th minutes as well as Frank Uwumiro at the half-hour mark extinguished any fight-back from the state league side.
Enugu Angels F.C were the first to go on the attack as the referee signaled the start of hostilities but their effort at goal was effectively checked by Kingdom Osayi, in goal for the ‘Flying Antelopes’ as action switched to the end of the young state league side with Chinemerem Ugwueze, Isaac Saviour and Kazeem Ogunleye dominating the middle of the pack.
After missing some begging chances, Godwin Obaje stabbed home the opening goal after a fine cut-back from Frank Uwumiro at the quarter-hour mark and on 25 minutes, the former league top scorer got his brace from the penalty spot after Chinemerem Ugwueze was upended inside the box and the referee wasted no time in awarding a penalty kick.
At the half-hour mark, lanky, Frank Uwumiro scored after he was set up by Kazeem Ogunleye’ sublime defense splitting pass while efforts to score more before the end of the match failed to materialize due largely to the heroics of goalkeeper, Ojobo Ifebuche and some stout defending especially in the second stanza.
Rangers will be playing Great Achievers F.C of Emene that defeated Udi Stars, 2-1 in the first quarter-final encounter, on February 19, 2025.
