23rd African Athletics Championships: Chukwukelu regarded as an American by World Athletics

It looks like the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, has not completed the process of getting Alexander Chukwukelu change his switch of allegiance from USA to Nigeria after the 19 year old was listed as an American in the 23rd African Athletics Championships results on the website of the world governing body for the sport.

Chukwukelu ran 13.80 to place third in heat two of the opening round of the men’s 110m hurdles at the ongoing African Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon.

He was also in the men’s 4x100m relay team that ran 39.52 to place second and qualify for the final of the event but was not used in the final following the addition of Oyinkansola Ajayi and Godson Oghenebrume.

While he was listed in the results sheets from the organizers of the event as a Nigerian, World Athletics listed him as an American.

Interestingly, the Cameroon duo of Cameron Ngo and Matteo Ngo are also listed as Frenchmen.

It is not clear yet what will happen to the results although observers believe the time Nigeria and Cameroon started the process of switch of allegiance may determine if the results will stand or not.
