45 years later, Nigeria to face Tanzania again in opening group game at AFCON

Like they did 45 years ago (March 1980), the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Taifa Stars of Tanzania will play the opening game of group at the Africa Cup of Nations for the second time.
In 1980, the Green Eagles, as the Nigerians were christened at the time, defeated Tanzania 3-1 in their opening group A game in front of 80,000 fans at the National stadium in Surulere, Lagos with goals from Mudashiru Lawal, Ifeanyi Onyedika and Segun Odegbami.
Forty-five years on, the two sides will play the opening game of group C at the Fez Stadium in Fez, a city in northern inland Morocco and the capital of the Fez-Meknes administrative region on December 23, 2025.
The Super Eagles will then face Tunisia in their second group game at the same stadium four days later (December 27) before playing Uganda in their last group game on December 30 also at the same stadium.
