7 defensive ‘Nigerian’ Premier League records Ndidi can set at Fulham

Wilfred Ndidi will be looking to make his second straight start when his club, Leicester City visit the Craven Cottage Saturday afternoon where they will face Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey’s Fulham in their Premier League Matchweek 2 fixture.

If the 27-year-old starts for the Foxes, he will be aiming to set new milestones and avoid some unwanted ones by a Nigerian in the history of the competition.

Last week against Tottenham at the King Power stadium, the Nigerian made just two tackles. If he makes even just one on Saturday, he will be extending his record as the Nigerian with the most tackles in the history of the Premier League.

He has made 696 tackles since he made his debut in the Premier League in January 2017.

Ndidi has made 390 interceptions since that time and made none against Tottenham. If he manages to make one against Fulham, it will extend his record as the Nigerian with the most interceptions in the competition.

The former KRC Genk of Belgium star will also be hoping to win most of the aerial battles against Fulham. He won just one against Spurs and if he can add another one, it will bring the total he has won to 516 which will still be the most by a Nigerian in the Premier League.

He will however be aiming to win all his aerial battles and lose none like he did last week at home because he is just behind Victor Anichebe (419) as the player who has lost more aerial battles in the history of the Premier League.

Ndidi will also be looking to avoid extending his two unwanted records. He has committed more errors (3) that led to goals and more penalties (8) than any other Nigerian ever in the competition.
