Man United set falter against Spanish opposition for the sixth straight time!
Man United are out of the Europa League after losing 3-0 in Spain to LaLiga side, Seville.
The Spanish team thus sails through on 5-2 aggregate after they were gifted two own goals by the Red Devils for a 2-2 draw at Old Traffordlast week.
This would be the third time Seville will knock Man United out of a European competition after first doing so in the 2017/18 seson and the 2019/20 season.
The defeat also the Red Devils have failed to beat Sevilla five times in major European competition (drew two and lost three), their most against an opponent without winning in their European history.
Interestingly, the last six sides to knock Man United out in the knockout rounds of the Champions League and Europa League have all been Spanish sides with Sevilla doing so thrice, Barceloan once (2018/19), Villarreal (2020/21) and Atletico Madrid (2021/23).
Harry Maguire and David De Gea errors ensured the embarrassing loss at Sevilla Thursday night.
Youssef En-Nesyri capitalised on a Maguire mistake and, after Loic Bade’s header, punished De Gea’s slip in a win that saw United make a humiliating Europa League exit.
Interestingly, the Red Devils had knocked out Barcelona and Real Betis to reach this stage, but for the sixth season running their European dreams ended in defeat to Spanish opposition.
