Juventus 0-1 Napoli: Osimhen fires blank for the ninth time in 25 games
As Partenopei go 17 points clear after dramatic, last gasp win in Turin
Osimhen fired blanks for only the ninth time in 25 Serie A appearances but his club, Napoli scored in second half added time through Giacomo Raspadori to beat Juventus 1-0 at the Allianz stadium and go 17 points clear at the top with seven games left to play.
The 24 year old Nigerian was seeking to move past Samuel Eto’O of Cameroun as the top African goal scorer in a single Serie A season and equal the African all-time top scorer record held by George Weah of Liberia.
Osimhen has scored 21 times in 25 Serie A games to lead the top scorer’s chart for the ongoing season and level with Eto’o who scored 21 times in 35 games for Inte Milan in the 2010/11 season to set the record as African top scorer in a single Serie A season.
The Nigerian was however denied the opportunity to make two Serie A history in a day and will now hope to do so when Napoli host William Troost-Ekong’s
Salernitana at the Stadio Diego Maradona on Saturday April 29.
Osimhen has scored once in two games against Salernitana and will now be seeking to net at least once to enable him break a record and equal another. It will also help him to extend his lead as the top scoring player in the Serie A this season.
He tops the chart with his 21 goals from 25 games and he is followed by Inter Milan’s Argentina forward, Lautaro Martinez who scored once in his club’s 3-0 win at Empoli to take his tally to 15 in 31 games.
