Amusan places fourth at Drake Relays, Enekwechi fifth

Reigning World 100m hurdles champion and record holder, Tobi Amusan continued with her build-up towards a successful defence of her title at the World Championships in Budapest this August with a 12.69 run at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday.

The petite Nigerian who turned 26 early this week placed fourth in the race won by USA’s Tia Jones who sped to a 12.44 finish and was followed her country women, Tonea Marshall (12.61) and 2019 World Champion, Nia Ali (12.67) who came second and third repectovely.

This is Amusan’s third race of the season and her third sub-13 seconds of the year.

The reigning Nigeria, African, Commonwealth and Diamond League champion has now legally ran inside 13 seconds 76 times since she broke the 13 seconds barrier in 2016.

In the men’s Shot Put at the same event, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi placed fifth with his ffith round best effort (20.12) while Ryan Crouser, two-time Olympic champion and reigning World champion won with 22.38m.
