Unlucky Oghenebrume runs 10.01 to win LSU Invitational 100m race
Another tail win denies Nigerian of a big PB, Ofili runs 11.28 to finish seventh
A tail wind of 3.3m/s has denied Louisiana State University student-athlete, Godson Oghenebrume another huge personal best after he crossed the line in 10.01 to win the 100m event at the Louisiana Invitational Saturday in Louisiana.
The 19 year old Nigerian stormed home first ahead of compatriot, Da’Marcus Fleming who ran 10.10 to place first and Olympic finalist and world 200m bronze medalist, Erroyon Knighton who ran 10.13 to finish third.
Oghenebrume came to the LSU Invitational brandishing an all conditions personal best of 9.97 achieved last week at the LSU Alumni Gold and all eyes were on the Nigerian to prove he can run as fast without the wind.
He still holds a personal best of 10.12 seconds he ran last year in Gainesville, Florida.
In the women’s 100m, Favour Ofili returned to the track for the first since March 25 but did not look in any shape to ruffle any feather as the 20 year old came in seventh in a wind-legal 11.28.
Former LSU alumnus and fastest woman in the world this year, Aleia Hobbs ran 11.04 to win ahead of Jacious Sears (11.08) and Mikiah Brisco (11.15).
In the women’s 400m, Ella Onojuvwevwo did not start as Imaobong Nse Uko placed fourth (51.89) in the overall classification.
The race was won by USA’s Sammier Little who ran 50.61 ahead of Rosey Effiong (51.31), daughter of former Nigeria international sprinter, Daniel Effiong and Florida’s Talitha Diggs who ran 51.51 to finish third.
