Ese Brume takes World Championships preparations to Austria

Drops to seventh in Diamond League long jump ranking

Commonwealth Long Jump champion, Ese Brume has been confirmed to compete at the 2023 Raiffeisen Austrian Open, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze level series on Wednesday in the small Austrian city of Eisenstadt.

Brume holds a personal season’s best of 6.81m which she achieved early last month in Chorzów, Poland and has never hit the 6.8 and even the 6.7m mark since then.

The 27 year old knows she needs to get back to form with hust three weeks left to the start of the World Championships in Budapest where she will be seeking to turn her silver medal win of last year to gold this this year.

The Nigerian will be challenged by Jamaica’s Tissanna Hickling who has jumped 6.85m this year.

Meanwhile, Brume has dropped from sixth to seventh in the race for the Diamond League final.

The African record holder leapt a distance of 6.67m at the Monaco Diamond League to finish eighth in the competition and after not competing in London on Sunday, she has dropped one step to seventh with the 10 points she garnered in three Diamond League meetings.

She needs to compete in Xiamen, China early September and be among the top five to secure a place in the final in Eugene between 16th and 17th September, 2023.
