Awoniyi makes Nothingham Forest and Nigeria goal history in the Premier League

It took only two minutes 23 seconds for Taiwo Awoniyi to score himself into Nothingham Forest and Nigeria’s Premier League history books when his club defeated Sheffield United Friday night at The City Ground.
The Super Eagles forward put Forest 1-0 ahead with a powerful header from Serge Aurier’s cross to become the first Forest player to net in six consecutive Premier League matches since Stan Collymore achieved this feat in March-April 1995.
Awoniyi’s scoring run is now the joint longest by a Nigerian player in the competition, and is surpassed by only two African players – Mohamed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor (seven each).
Odion Ighalo also netted six straight times for Watford between November 28, 2015 when he netted once in Watford’s 3-2 win at Aston Villa and when he was also on song once in his club’s 2-1 loss to Tottenham at the Vicarage Road stadium on December 28, 2015.
Awoniyi had equalled the previous record of scoring in five consecutive games held by Peter Osaze Odemwingie when he scored in Forest’s 2-1 opening Premier League game defeat at the Emirates to Arsenal.
Odemwingie had scored five times between April 2011 to May 2011 against Sunderland, Chelsea, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Wolves.
