Chioma Onyekwere: ‘I came, I saw, I’ll do better next time’!

Commonwealth Discus Throw champion Chioma Onyekwere, MON, has promised Nigerians of a better outing next year after failing to make it to the final at the
19th World Athletics Championships which ended Sunday in Budapest, Hungary.

The 29 year old came to the Championships as the African record holder in the event after improving by over three metres from her 61.70m lifetime best last year August to 64.96m last April.

The Nigerian failed to find the form to throw at least a centimetre over the 61.31m that got the 12th athlete to the final but has promised to surprise next year ostensibly at the Paris Olympics like she did in Birmingham last year when she became the first Nigerian woman to win a Discus throw title.

Onyekwere who won her second African Championships title in June and will be defending her African Games title next month finished as the 21st best among the 37 athletes that competed and ahead of her compatriots, Ashley Anumba (25th) and Pamela Obiageri Amaechi (37th).
