Omanyala to compete in Italy ahead of first Diamond League final appearance

Africa and Commonwealth 100m champion, Ferdinand Omanyala will be in the city of Rovereto in Italy on Wednesday to compete at the Palio Citta’ della Quercia
Rovereto, a World Athletics Continental Silver Tour meeting.

The Kenyan will run in the 100m event as he prepares for his first Diamond League final in Oregon, USA in 11 days time.

Omanyala is in Europe to continue his preparation for the Oregon event and ran 10.04 to come second at the Gala dei Castelli in Bellinzona, Switzerland on
Monday.

In Italy, he will face Oblique Seville of Jamaica, fellow finalist in the 100m event at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary as well as
two other Jamaicans, Watson Rohan and Campbell Micheal.

USA duo of Carnes Brandon and Jt Smith, Frenchman Fall Mouhamadou and home boy, Ceccarelli Samuele will also be at the starting block in Rovereto.

Omanyala is among the eight athletes that have qualified to run in the 100m event at the Diamond League final in Oregon and the Kenyan will be seeking to
become the first African in competition history to be crowned Diamond League champion.

Others are former world champion, Fred Kerley of the USA, two other Africans, Akani Simbine of South Africa and Lestile Tebogo of Botswana as well as
Jamaican duo of Yohan Blake and Thompson Kishane.

Amother American, Bromell Trayvon and German, Hartmann Joshua complete the list of sprinters who will compete in the winner-takes-all final to be crowned
Wanda Diamond League Champion.

The winner will be awarded a prestigious Diamond Trophy and US$ 30’000 prize money.
