Sha’Carri Richardson plays down Diamond League loss, sounds Paris 2024 Olympics warning

World 100m champion, Sha’Carri Richardson says her loss to World 200m champion, Shericka Jackson in the Diamond League 100m final Saturday at the Hayfield stadium in Oregon, USA has provided with what she needs to work on ahead of next year’s Olympics.

Richardson who ran 10.65 to win her first world title last month in Budapest, Hungary could not replicate the form on home track as she finished fourth (10.80) behind Jackson (10.70), Marie-Jose Ta Lou (10.75) and reigning Olympics champion, Elaine Thompson-Herah (10.79).

Speaking to reporters after the race,the 23 year old NCAA champion in 2019 says she is not feeling sad that she failed to Diamond League title.

‘What matters is being whole with myself as an athlete, being a great competitor, executing what it is that I know I can after having an amazing season. I am not mad at all about the time that I did today.

‘I always give her (Shericka Jackson) a big hug, I love her. Today (Saturday) was amazing, a great end to the season. It just gives me stuff to work on, prepare for Olympics next year,’ she said and revealed women are ready to finally take over track and field.

‘We’ve had the men run for a while, but it’s our time now and we’re here to stay.

‘We got fresh, beautiful women and that’s gonna take over the entire game. Watch. Expect me to continue to be not I’m back. I’m better.’
