Messi tops list for MLS MVP and ‘Newcomer of the Year’ awards

Major League Soccer has announced the awards for the Year-End awards for the 2023 season with Inter Miami star Lionel Messi nominated for two awards.
The 36 year old has been nominated for both the MLS Most Valuable Player and Newcomer of the Year award, despite only playing a total of 247 minutes since arriving in Miami this summer.
The Argentina captain has so far scored 11 times and provided five assists in 12 games for Inter Miami.
Meanwhile, the MLS has also made public that voting will begin on October 10 and finish on October 23, which is two days after Decision Day (end of MLS regular season).
‘The winner in each category will be determined following a vote by journalists, club technical staffs, and MLS players, with each group accounting for 33.3% of the total vote. Club technical staffs and players may not vote for their own team’s nominees.’
Messi has won many awards in his career and he is looking to add to that later this month.
