Osimhen’s Historic Firsts For Napoli and Nigeria

On Monday evening in Paris, France, Victor Osimhen made history as the first Napoli and Nigeria player to make Ballon d’Or top 10 rankings.
The Nigeria international is ranked the eighth best player in the world in the 2022/23 season after he significantly contributed to Napoli’s first Serie A
title win in 33 years becoming the top-scorer in the league with 26 goals in 32 appearances.
Napoli also reached the Champions League quarter-finals last season, the best result for the Partenopei in Europe’s elite competition through Osimhen’s five
goals in six matches.
Outside the ballon d’Or, the 24 year old former Lille of France forward is also the Most Valuable Nigerian player ever after he was valued at 120m by
Transfermarkt.
He is the first Nigerian player to hit the 100m and 100m plus mark. He is also the first Nigerian to rank as high as number five in the world in
Transfermarkt valuation.
Osimhen is the first Nigerian player to top the Serie A ranking as the most valuable player in history. No other Serie A player has ever been valued as high
as 120m. He is also Napoli’s Most Valuable Player ever.
Osimhen was phenomenal for Napoli last season. His 26 goals helped him to become the top scoring player for the season in the Serie A, the top scoring
African of all-time in the Serie A to supplant Liberia’s George Weah and the top scoring Nigerian and African in a single Serie A season, beating Samuel
Eto’o and Simy respectively.
