Osimhen celebrates first African POTY award with first UCL goal of season

A day after he was crowned the best player in Africa, Victor Osimhen scored his first UEFA Champions League goal of the ongoing 2023/24 season to help Napoli to a 2-0 defeat of SC Braga at the Diego Maradona stadium in Naples.

The Nigerian has provided just an assist in his first three games in the competition and it came in the first game against Braga in Portugal.

Osimhen has now scored his first to bring his total goal this season to seven across all competitions. It also brings his total for Napoli to six in 10 games
and eight overall in 15 appearances in the competition.

Napoli and Osimhen will now be waiting to see who they are drawn against in the round of 16 and the Nigerian could see himself facing group B leaders Arsenal
or better still, Premier League champions, Manchester City.

He could also face Bayern Munich, one of the clubs rumoured to be keen on signing the Nigerian last summer.

Osimhen’s immediate focus would however be to return to scoring ways in the Serie A and resume his battle for the top scorer’s award when Napoli hosts
Cagliari this weekend.

The 24 year old has not scored in the competition since October when he netted his club’s only goal in the 3-1 defeat to visiting Fiorentina at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
