Eagles set to equal Ghana, Ivory Coast and Tunisia AFCON feat

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be playing in their 11th quarter-final match at the Africa Cup of Nations when they face the Palancas Negras of Angola on Friday.

The Nigerians are thus set to become the fourth nation in competition history to feature in 11 quarterfinal matches after Ghana, Ivory Coast and Tunisia.
Jose Peseiro’s men have won their last three AFCON games without conceding after drawing 1-1 with Equatorial Guinea in their opening group A game.

The Super Eagles have never won four consecutive matches in a single edition without conceding a goal.

Friday’s game will be the first time Nigeria and Angola will be playing at the AFCON tournament.

The Super Eagles will now be playing with the added pressure of being installed favourites to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations following the exit of many of the continents’ big guns before the quarter-final stage.
