Goztepe to battle Trabzonspor for Onuachu

Turkish outlet NTV Spor is reporting that Goztepe, another Turkish Super Lig side are interested in signing Nigeria striker Paul Onuachu from Southampton this summer.

Onuachu joined Southampton in January 2023, but failed to make an impact as he neither scored nor provided an assist in the 11 Premier League games he featured in despite scoring 16 goals in 19 appearances for his Belgian side, Genk in the first half of last season.

He was loaned out to Turkish Super Lig side, Trabzonspor following Southampton’s relegation to the Sky Bet Championship and the 29 year old has netted 12 times and provided four assists in 18 league games this season.

Trabzonspor are reportedly interested in keeping Onuachu and would prefer another loan deal, while Southampton are looking to sell, with talks ongoing.

Goztepe have now joined the race after securing promotion back to the Turkish top-flight.

There are still two years remaining on Onuachu’s contract with the Saints which means they are in a strong position to respond to interest in him.
