2024 World Athletics Relays: Amusan, Okon George, Ojeli, Nathaniel out; Ogunmakinju doubtful

Nigeria’s chances of picking all five Paris Olympics relay tickets at the 2024 World Athletics Relays which hold between Saturday and Sunday seem to be thinning out following the non-availability of five more athletes led by World 100m hurdles champion, Tobi Amusan who was listed to compete in the women’s 4x100m relay.

Also out are the home-based trio of Patience Okon George, Samson Nathaniel and Ifeanyi Ojeli who have been unable to obtain visas to the USA from where they will move into Nassau, the Bahamas capital.

Also likely to miss out is Omolara Ogunmakinju, the 13th African Games heroine who singularly turned the 4x400m mixed relay from silver to gold for Nigeria at the Games in Accra in March.

Ogunmakinju is competing for her school at the 2024 G-MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Hillsdale, Michigan on Friday.

There is an uncomfirmed report that the 30 year old mother of two will fly out to Nassau immediately after the championships in Michigan but SportsNow was unable to confirm the report.

Earlier in the week, it was discovered that Godson Oghenebrume will not be available for the event due to visa issues, the same problem that ensured Favour Ashe did not make the entry list sent by Nigeria.

Sportsnow could not confirm if Nathaniel Ezekiel has sorted out his visa problem and joined team in Nassau. It is also not certain if Rosemary Chukwuma is also able to make it as she is reported to be writing her final examinations at Texas Tech University.
