Oghenebrume races into his second SEC 100m final, on course to defend title
Ashe, Ajayi, Godbless and Ogazi also race into Saturday's final
Godson Oghenebrume clocked 10.05 seconds (+0.6 m/s) to finish first in the heats and qualify for the SEC Outdoor Championships 100m final on Saturday.
The 20 year old ran the fastest qualifying time ahead of his Nigerian compatriots, the Auburn University duo of Favour Ashe (10.13) and Kanyinsola Ajayi who ran a new 10.13 lifetime best.
Oghenebrume is now on course to defend the SEC Outdoor Championships 100m title he won ahead of Ashe last year in Baton Roque, Louisiana while Ashe will be eager to reclaim the title he won in 2022.
Ajayi has made it to his first SEC Outdoor Championships final and may wish to emulate Ashe who won on his debut two years ago.
Meanwhile, Tima Godbless also made it to her first SEC Outdoor Championships final after running 11.32 to qualify in the 100m event.
University of Alabama’s Samuel Ogazi is also in the final in his debut season in the collegiate track and field circuit, running 45.49 to sealhis spot.
Reigning African U20 400m champion, Opeyemi Oke will however not be in the final after running 53.33 to place 17th in the overall classification.
