Oghenebrume and Ashe take 100m rivalry to NCAA Division I East Preliminaries

Godson Oghenebrume and Favour Ashe are set to go head-to-head for the fourth time in NCAA outdoor circuit and 11th time overall at theNCAA Division I East Preliminaries in Lexington, Kentucky later this week.

The duo could not meet in the finals of the 100m event at the SEC outdoor championships last week in Florida after Ashe failed to start in the final won by Oghenebrume to ensure their head to head tie remains at 5-5.

Kentucky has provided for a fourth meeting on American soil and Oghenebrume who has won their last two meetings in the Collegiate circuit will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce, 3-1 in head to head clashes in the NCAA and 6-5 in 11 meetings.

Both won their respective heats last year in the first round of this competition before Oghenebrume stormed to a 9.90 lifetime best performance to come second in the NCAA finals in Austin, Texas ahead of Ashe who came in eighth in 10.02.

Ashe has ran inside 10 seconds twice this season while Oghenebrume ran his first sub-10 seconds of the season last week when he stormed to a 9.99 finish to successfully defend his SEC outdoor championships title.

Also set to compete in Kentucky are Kanyinsola Ajayi, Deborah Opeyemi and Abasiono Akpan who will all be competing for Auburn University.

Tima Godbless and Ella Onojuvwevwo will join Oghenebrume as members of the LSU contingent while Rosemary Chukwuma will lead Temitope Adeshina and Success Umukoro to Kentucky from Texas tech University.

Rejoice Sule will come in from University of Texas in El Paso, UTEP, the University that produced such Nigeria greats as Olopade Adenikan, Blessing Okagbare and Tobi Amusan.

Nathaniel Ezekiel will lead Baylor University’s Nigerian contingent that also incluses Nnamdi Chinecherem and Imaobong Nse Uko to Kentucky.
