Former Arsenal star, Emmanuel Petit believes Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and English man, Marcus Rashford could be the final pieces in yhe Gunners’ Premier League title jigsaw.
Petit who featured in 140 Premier League games for Arsenal and Chelsea says Mikel Arteta’s team needs a proven goalscorer if they are to successfully challenge Man City for the Premier League title.
‘I think Arsenal need a 30-goal striker to finally win the Premier League and that man could be Victor Osimhen, who has been amazing with Lille then Napoli. His dream is to come to England and he could be brilliant here.
‘He’s physically so strong and is an out and out number nine, so he’d be my first choice. But as I mentioned, I also think Rashford would be a great addition as he can play out wide and up front. To compete with Man City, Arsenal need four more players, though. City can bring on five players with incredible quality and right now, Arsenal can’t, so they need to have a busy summer ahead,’ said Petit on behalf of Boylesports, an Irish gambling company founded in 1982.
The Frenchman also believes Arteta can transform Rashford the way he did to Kai Havertz who was bought from Chelsea last summer.
Rashford was very poor in the just ended season, scoring just eight times in 42 appearances, including seven in the Premier League for Manchester United, a stark contrast to the 50 he scored in the 2022/23 season in 56 appearances across all competitions including 17 in 35 Premier League appearances.
‘Listen, I know Kai Havertz has improved massively at Arsenal, but it’s difficult to say whether Arteta could do the same with Rashford if he moved to the club. However, I have no doubt that Rashford needs a new start and I think Arsenal could be perfect for him.
‘We all know the quality of Rashford for what he’s done in years at Man United, but everyone questioned Havertz and his position when he moved from Chelsea. Would Rashford be good at Arsenal? Give me the paper, and let me sign it for him right now! Rashford in a good environment would be incredible for the Gunners as they all look miserable at United,’ added Petit.
