Gina Bass targets Olympic 100m final after Stockholm win

African Games double sprint champion, Gina Bass says she is going back to Gambia to continue with her training as she sets sight on making it to the final of the 100m event at the Paris Olympics later this summer.

Bass, who could not get past the semifinal on her debut at the quadrennial games three years ago in Tokyo, Japan, won her first Diamond League race on Saturday after storming home first in the women’s 100m event.

The 29 year old is confident she will make it to the Olympic final this time around.

‘The weather was perfect for me to today and the people of Stockholm were very welcoming and have come out to support us. I am in top form and I was confident when I came out today that I could show my talent.

‘My next step is to go home to train until the Olympics because I want to reach that Olympic final. I am lucky that in my country I do not have to do trials so I can concentrate on my training and preparation. I have done lots of racing so it is time for a break now to prepare well,’ Bass said after beating her African sister, Marie Jose Ta Lou-Smith to win in Stockholm.
