NPFL: Enyimba wallop Rivers United 4-1 to cut gap at the top to two points

Enyimba of Aba may have lost their head coach, Finidi George to the Super Eagles but the Peoples Elephant have not lost their desire for a back to back Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, title win as they walloped visiting Rivers United 4-1 in a machweek 34 fisture at the Enyimba international stadium in Aba.

The visitors drew the first blood through Andy Okpe on 14 minutes but the homers levelled with seven minutes to the end of the first half through Chijioke Mbaoma.

Three second half goals ensured the Peoples Elephant recorded their 18th win of the season to move two points within league leaders, Enugu Rangers who drew 0-0 at Sporting Lagos.

Enyimba are now on 59 points, level with Remo Stars who defeated Kano Pillars on Saturday in Ikenne.

Both Enyimba and Remo Stars are just two points behind Rangers with the Peoples Elephant facing the league leaders in their next game at The Cathedral in Enugu next Sunday in what is potentially a title decider while Remo Stars visit Lobi Stars who look out of reckoning albeit they still have a mathematical chance of winning the title if they win all their remaining three games and those on top of them lose all theirs.

Meanwhile, Shooting Stars also ensured they are in contention for the title after demolishing visiting Abia Warriors at the Lekan Salami stadium in Ibadan om Sunday.
The Oluyole warriors are still fourth on the log, five points off Rangers at the top of the log.
