USTAF New York Grand Prix: Onwuzurike to run first 100m race of 2024, Ofili seeks favourable wind to clinch Olympic ticket
Former World U20 200m champion, Udodi Onwuzurike will open his 100m campaign at the USTAF New York Grand Prix on Sunday, according to the entry for the competition.
The 21 year old last competed in the event in June last year when he ran 9.98 to finish sixth in the final of the NCAA Outdoor Championships at the Mike Myers stadium in Austin, Texas.
The Nigerian will be aiming to start where he left off in Texas as he bids to secure his place in the event at the Paris Olympics.
Onwuzurike secured the ticket to compete in the 200m event at the Olympics when he ran 20.13 in his first race of the season over the distance at the PURE Athletics Elite Invitational in Clermont, Florida in April.
Also seeking a place in Paris in the 100m is Favour Ofili who has also been confirmed for the competition on Sunday.
Ofili has had two huge performances in the blue ribband event (10.85 and 10.78) rendered illegal by massive tail wind and the 21 year old will be seeking to run faster than the 11.07 entry standard set for the event.
The African 150m record holder however punched her ticket in the half lap race when she ran 22.33 at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Florida in April.
