2024 Ed Murphey Track Classic: Usoro set to return to action for the first time in almost four months

Long jumper, Ruth Usoro is set to return to action this week at the 2024 Ed Murphey Track Classic at the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee this week, almost four months after she last competed in any competition.

The 26 year is among the 35 athletes the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, has selected for the Paris Olympics which starts later this month and the Texas Tech University, USA graduate, who last featured for the country and in any competition at the African Games in March in Accra, Ghana has been confirmed for the long jump event at the 2024 Ed Murphey Track Classic.

Usoro, who holds a lifetime and personal season’s best of 6.87m first achieved indoors last year and repeated indoors this season qualified for the Olympics on the strength of that but was not at the Nigeria Olympics Trials in Benin City last month may be using this meeting, a World Athletics Continental Tour, Silver event to assess her preparedness for the Games.

Also confirmed for the event is sprinter, Favour Ofili who will be running in the 100m event.

The 21 year old won her first Nigeria 100m title last month in Benin city and will be keen to show she is ready to make history as the first Nigerian woman to make the 100m podium at the Olympics
