World Rankings: Charlton moves second behind Camacho-Quinn as Amusan drops further down to fifth

After getting her world indoor 60m record of 7.65 ratified at the start of the month by World Athletics, Bahamian, Devynne Charlton has moved to number two in the world rankings for the 100m hurdles behind reigning Olympic champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn.

Charlton supplanted Tobi Amusan as the number two ranked high hurdler at the end of June with the Nigerian moving down to third. With the latest update during the week, the Bahamas sprint hurdler has retained her position while Amusan has dropped further to fifth behind Camacho-Quinn, Charlton, Kendra Harrison and reigning World champion, Daniele Williams.

The Nigerian had moved top of the rankings two days after winning the 100m hurdles gold at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, USA, a feat which also catapaulted her to number six in the women’s overall rankings.

Amusan remained top of the 100m hurdles rankings for a little over a year and only dropped to number two behind Caamcho-Quinn who took over as number one.

The 27 year old remained the second best until the end of last month when she dropped to third and gave up the third position early this month after the update by World Athletics.
Amusan will however be looking to return top of the ranking for the second time in her career if she makes the podium as Olympic 100m hurdles champion in Paris next month.
