Tima Godbless, Abasiono Akpan named to the 2023-24 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll
Sprinter Tima Godbless and quarter mile barrier runner, Abasiono Akpan are among the 1,459 student-athletes on the 2024 First Year SEC Academic Honor Roll announced Wednesday by the Southeastern Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey.
The First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2023-24 academic calendar.
Any student-athlete who participates in a Southeastern Conference championship sport or a student-athlete who participates in a sport listed on his/her institution’s NCAA Sports Sponsorship Form is eligible for nomination to the Academic Honor Roll.
The two Nigerian ladies have proved they are as good running on the track as they are in the classroom.
Godbless was impressive in her first season in the NCAA circuit, running personal best in the 100m (11.03) and 200m (22.56). The 20 year old also made it to the final of the 100m and 200m events in her debut at the NCAA outdoor championships.
Akpan was also impressive in her second season at Auburn University with the 23 year old setting lifetime best in the 400m flat indoors (53.99) and in the 800m (2:12.79).
