Dele-Bashiru signs new Watford deal, seeks Premier League return for Hornets

Former Nigerian youth international, Tom Dele-Bashiru has set his sight on helping Watford back to the Premier League at the end of the 2024/25 season.

The 24 year old extended his stay at the Vicarage Road stadium by another two years and wants to build on his impressive performance of last season for the Hornets as he eyes Premier League football in the 2025/26 season.

‘For me personally promotion is the goal, and I think we can achieve it,’ he said.

‘It has to be everyone’s goal. We just have to work hard every day and keep improving and working towards that target.’

The Nigerian also revealed he renewed his contract with the club partly due to gaffer, Tom Cleverley’s influence.

‘A few things influenced me in wanting to stay; Clevs was a big part.

‘When he came in towards the end of last season he put a lot of confidence and faith in me, and he was very influential, so he played a big part in me wanting to stay,’ said the Nigerian.

Dele-Bahiru has had a positive start to his pre-season campaign with the club and he has featured in all three macthes the club has played thus far.

‘Pre-season is going well. We are still learning the way the manager wants us to play, and his style of play, but the lads are taking everything on board pretty well.

‘Some of the patterns of play that the manager wants are starting to come out now in the pre-season games, but there are still things to work on and improve on, so we will keep improving.’
